Catering Service
As an integral part of the King's College day, all pupils are served with lunch prepared daily on-site by our own catering service. Up to the age of seven, children sit with their class teacher and are served at the table. Older pupils use the dining room on a self service basis but are constantly supervised by duty teachers. Menus are carefully developed to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet. Parents of children in the Infant and Junior Departments are sent a copy of these menus at the beginning of each month.
Health
A doctor or nurse is in attendance at the main site for the whole school day. Where pupils require special treatment, a local medical centre is used and parents are informed as a matter of priority. The school also has an insurance policy covering accidents suffered during school activities both on and off site.
Bus routes
The optional bus service is provided by one of the largest private bus companies in Spain with a fleet of 18 modern vehicles covering most of Madrid and its outlying areas. All routes are supervised by an adult monitor.
Boarding Facilities - The Residence
Introduction
King's College Residence offers boarding facilities with a genuinely international atmosphere for pupils of Secondary age. Over recent years we have welcomed pupils from South Africa, Poland, UK, Spain, United States, Russia, Japan, China, Bulgaria, to name but a few.
At present the Residence occupies one and a half floors in a wing of the main building, although in the future there are plans to build an independent unit in the school grounds.
Boys and girls are assigned to separate floors, each having Residence staff in attendance. Up to and including National Curriculum Year 11 (age 16) students usually occupy shared rooms, all of which have private en suite bathrooms, and are designed to accommodate two people. Wherever possible, single rooms are available for our most senior pupils.
The residence staff, at least one of whom is always on active duty on the premises, endeavour to create a relaxed family atmosphere and are very conscious of their all important pastoral care role. During the week there are structured study times when academic progress is checked.
In their free time pupils may use either of the two common rooms which offer areas for relaxing, a variety of indoor games and Spanish as well as British satellite television. They may also bring their own televisions, stereo equipment, mobile phones and computers. Wireless internet connection is available in all the bedrooms.
Weekends
Residence staff organise a variety of activities at the weekend, including, amongst others: trips to the cinema, ten pin bowling, ice skating and excursions to places of interest in and around Madrid.
Great importance is placed on the sporting activities of our boarders. Outside school hours, they have access to extensive sports facilities including tennis and basketball courts, football pitches and an indoor heated swimming pool (available on weekdays). One day ski trips to the nearby Sierra de Guadarrama are also organised during the winter months.
All trips and leave are at the discretion of the Head of the Residence, whose permission must be sought in advance.
Transport at the beginning and end of term
Travel arrangements to and from school at the beginning and end of term remain primarily the responsibility of parents. The school will arrange for boarders to be met when they arrive at the airport or main Madrid stations, and at the end of term will ensure that they board their various trains and flights.
